This car is a time capsule, having been put in indoor storage in 1998 and only emerging in 2015 when I bought it. It has been fully restored mechanically and cosmetically, but in style and equipment, it is exactly as it was when it went into storage.
The Mtech II kit is clean, with minor spiderwebbing. It is authentic BMW. Note also the single exhaust outlet rear valance.
The car runs and drives perfectly, and everything on it works. I have a long list of parts replaced including all fluids, all filters, the gas tank, fuel pump, center support bearing, and much more. I will provide complete receipts for the work, which was done at a local vintage BMW specialty shop which I trust exclusively. No corners were cut bringing this E30 back to life.
The Fittipaldis wear new Dunlops with less than 500 miles on them.
Inside, the car is mint, including Fischer C-Box tape storage and period Pioneer tape head deck, which sounds good and does indeed play tapes. I have not verified that the associated Pioneer six-disc changer works as I don't have a cartridge for it.
The paint is very good and original aside from the front right fender, which my paint guy tells me has been resprayed. He performed a thorough wetsand/buff as well as paintless dent removal on the hood and trunk lid. He touched up some areas as needed, and his bottle of touchup paint is included.
It rides and drives insanely tight on unknown red springs and what I suspect to be factory Bilsteins. The R12 A/C blows cold.
Little is known of the history of the car. You will technically be the third owner, I believe. I will provide a CarFax for interested parties. The car was imported from Germany in 1996 and registered in 1997 and 1998. The story from the PO is that it belonged to his father-in-law, an AF officer, and was passed down. The seller knew little about the car or its history.
I have personally replaced the odometer gears in this car. Nobody who has been in or worked on the car has doubted the miles. I would bet my entire life that they are accurate and original at 36,XXX.
This is a tight, low-mileage, fully sorted car. A turnkey car ready to go to a new home. Its past is mostly mysterious and completely undocumented, but I assure you that you cannot enjoy driving a folder of receipts, and you will very much enjoy driving this car.
Here is a link to 100 photos, with more on the way.
Here is a link to a video walkaround.
The car is located in Columbia, SC, and is available for $18,500 or best reasonable offer. Trades will be considered for other mostly stock BMWs with manual transmissions and working AC plus cash. Currently I can be contacted via PM or at mikeb23ft@gmail.com. I am glad to talk to a prospective buyer via phone and am willing to arrange and help with shipping.
