    1991 325i S50 Swap (Albany NY)

    SOLD SOLD SOLD

Up for sale is my Brilliantrot 1991 325i with 1995 M3 engine and transmission. The car has been very heavily modified with the aim of creating an incredible driver’s car which turns heads and can be taken grocery shopping.

The car was built in March of 1991, making it a last year and last month model. The car was sold in Virginia that July. The vehicle was taken off the road sometime between 2005 and 2006, and was not re-registered until 2013. It spent a just under a year in Minnesota before being brought to New York where it has remained since.

I purchased the vehicle in January of 2017 and in May of 2017 swapped in an engine and transmission from a 183K mile 1995 M3. The engine had been serviced thoroughly by it’s previous owner including welding of the oil pump nut. The engine was tuned by RK tuning on long island before I purchased it.

In May of 2018 the vehicle was hit on the right front corner, which pushed the right front wheel into the passenger’s footwell and totaled the car. Luckily the subframe, shock tower, and all other mounting points remained intact. The car was professionally repaired by replacing both front fenders, valence, bumper, and completely respraying the car. At this time all the rust was repaired except for a small hole under the battery.

As I am moving to California I would rather sell this than go through the expense of making it SMOG legal.

Nice car, might be tough getting your asking price with a salvage title, but I hope you get it. I've got a very similar car, Brilliantrot with an s50 as well.

Its on a clean title, in NY they understand that because the blue book value is so low insurance is likely to total out anything over 10 years old and will issue a clean title after rebuild and inspection.

Never had a problem. Just had to put it on for inspection.

AC? Seems like a good car, but would want to see images of the wreck if I was buying it.

Good to know, glad I mentioned it as I wasn't aware NY did this. In that case, I think you're asking a fair price for it.

You will get screwed in NYC if you go through cashless tolls. Ask me how it felt paying $174 fine for a clear plastic cover over my front plate (perfectly visible, but still not legal) on our minivan!!!! Bridge cops didn't give to shits even after showing him my friends NYS PBA card. Not a "fix-it" ticket either....no points moving violation.

I live in Dutchess and my other car which is my daily has no front plate but never goes into city...never a problem in 4 years
