Yeah... It was a stock muffler, and he was planning on replacing it at the time, so he let his friend drill holes in it. Then we ended up trading cars. The car rarely gets driven, since my wife and I work at the same place... So I never bothered to have it replaced. I was about to take the car to get it replaced a couple weeks ago, but after talking with my wife we decided I should just go ahead and pursue a new car.

I was there when they drilled holes in it. It actually sounds pretty good. :)

That Was My Son's Car
Greetings!
That was my son's car. I did some work for our BMW mechanic and took it in trade from him. He got it from a long-time customer. I do not know if she was the first owner, but she had it maintained regularly and well at Salzmann Motors in Wilsonville until she decided to buy a new car.
The mileage seems a bit odd, though. I thought it was in the high 100s or low 200s when Elliot traded it for Erik's '89 GTI VR6. Erik must have had the engine rebuilt, because we did not. In any event, it was in good shape when Elliot had it, and it looks like it is still in good shape. All in all, a good car. (I wish Elliot had kept it!)
I just left Elliot a VM. Maybe he will chime in.
He recently traded the GTI for a lowered '96 Passat wagon with a VR6 and Audi TT wheels...
