I really hate when people bring up the smog issue on an obviously heavily modified car. When you're buying something like a motor swapped or turbocharged car, you just expect to take care of smog yourself, law or not. If it's something you're scared of, buy a stock 325i.

I disagree. If I'm going to drop 10 grand on an e30, it better have a smog certificate when I buy it, motor swap or not. I think most people would agree with this.

I kinda agree with hugh jass. If Im going to spend the money, I would like it to have passed through the referee. And if it does not, I would like to be warned ahead of time. There are plenty of shops who dont give a fuck, and will pass it anyways for $100. Thats the #1 thing that would hold me back from buying a car with a swapped motor... It did this past year already.

+1 - nor am I, you have a very, very desirable car.

It seems as though some of the heavy weights on this board don't see the elephant in the room - the CA smog Nazi !! Their laws get much tougher each year - they are doing spot checks with "sniffers" at on ramps here in So Ca. They are even talking about, when they catch a "gross polluter" with this sniffer, if it's not fixed in a short amount of time - they can pull it off the road & crush it!!

I'm not calling your car a gross polluter - but if that happened, don't you think the buyer (he's out $10,000+) would look for some sort of recourse from the seller? Yea, I know there are ways to trick the machines, but very few now, compared to 5 yrs. ago. If you want to have guys knocking down your door with cash in hand, offer the smog. E30pq on this board, has the same engine swap in his E30 cabrio. He is from Carlsbad & his car just passed smog by the referee. It doesn't seem like it was a big deal for him - perhaps he can help you out. Worth a pm at least.

Jay Leno has a 502 inch 800 hsp. twin turbo Olds Tornado, that smogs as clean as a new BMW - That is heavily modified - don't you think a precision engine like pollacks could be made to pass legally? You bet.

Really, the main hassle is getting all the vacuum and emission tubing exactly correct. The car sould pass mog assuming the engine, O2 and cat are all running and working properly. I think this car would be sold pretty damn quick if it was approved by a referee. Getting it smogged is never an issue if you know people. I mean we used to leave a 6 pack on the seat of whatever car we wanted smogged, and pay $100. It passed every time, for every car in our fleet, at my last job. But having it legit definitely makes a car a LITTLE more desirable lol.

I plan on having the car smogged, which will last for 2 years in CA. Only thing is I don't want to deal with the ref and what not for now, b/c I know of a few places that will allow my buddies to run their e30s for me ;).

I don't really plan on taking any less then 10k for it, I am really considering to keep it. But, I guess if i see the money in hand that would change my mind.

P.S- Exhaust consists of: ebay turbo manifold as header (ya I know headers would've been better, but I never heard about the ebay headers before the swap, etc, etc.) 3" down pipe--> 3" Vibrant high flow metal core cat--> 24" Accelerator truck series muffler (biggest one I could find to quiet down the 3")--> Vibrant Street Power turbo muffler.

Will post a shitty vid from my digital camera of the exhaust later today.

Fast car. Simple as that.

Everything works. Its looks great. And did I mention its fast??

Keeps up with street bikes, walks all over most everything on the freeway.

Only one bad thing though. . . . It steals any and everything you have in your pockets!!

this seems like a bit of a stretch. i know its "quick" on the highway, but street bikes? c'mon man lets get real. a 2700 lb car needs 450 hp at the wheels to keep up with a 600. sweet car though, would love to own it. just dont have the flow.

maybe the bikes were running badly but I saw what I saw. This thing has major balls whether it beats street bikes or not
