What is the install on these? Do I have that little plugs other half stuck up somewhere behind my check panel?

There's a DIY write up somewhere around here, just search and you'll find it.

Can you wire it up to come on when you open the door? Or does it operate by the switches only? I only see two wires on that plug so its prolly switches only huh.....wonder if you could do some modifien....l..

If you leave the switches in the 'on' position, you can wire them to come on with the door... but then that would be the only way to turn them on, unless you had a secondary switch to apply power otherwise. It could be done.
