    88' e30m3 cluster

i have an early production 88' e30 m3 cluster from my previous parts car. The original VDO cluster face was cracked so i replaced it with a motometer face from another cluster i had. I will include the original cluster face and SI board to go along with the cluster.

ODO reads 103,252 and the cluster did operate when i got the parts car so i know that it works.

any interest in $200obo shipped for this?

    sorry for the crappy picture.

    paypal is z33_ramos@yahoo.com

Not that my b35 can rev to 8k , but a serious question though. e30m3 cluster can take a 6cyl coding plug and will the tach read properly right ?

For those with 24v and worked 6cyl engines, that is.

you are correct the 4cyl coding plug is currently installed, but a 6cyl will fit and will need to be used for 24v swapped cars.

I was going to ask about the ///M logo, but then I actually READ the ad.

Looking to get rid of the e-brake boot on the new parts car? Eh?

Why would only that gauge below the rpms have a red needle and not the rest?

My M3 is 662 with a 5/87 production date. Number 001 belongs to a member on S14.net. I'm sure we can confirm that they all came with the same gauge cluster. These cars are old, things get changed/swapped out, so a lot of people will opt for 318/325 cluster parts as a replacement if something goes wrong.

It is possible to just change the front clear plastic face and keep the ///M emblem. ALL E30 M3's came with red needles from the factory. It's very strange that the other needles are white. If I had to guess, the gauges (except the tach) are probably from a 318/325 and the needle on the tach was swapped to white, to match the others. Or the previous owner didn't like red needles and switched to white (unlikely). It all functions the same but the red needles are unique to the M3. As silly as it seems, without those on the speedo/gas/temp gauge and the ///M emblem it's just another 318/325 cluster with M3 tach and oil temp gauge of course.

I think the contrasting red needle on the oil gauge would be a great indication that the cluster had some modifications.

I seriously doubt that back in the 80s, the factory used different colored needles within the same cluster.

The red needle is a comestic issue that matters to most enthusiast however silly.
