I was thinking about that. The only thing is that I really don't think that this would ever see stresses that making the bar like that would be needed. If you look at most of the other bars, they weld the end plate in the middle of the tube, I don't think that they are cutting slots into the tubes. That not really the easiest thing, but if I'll ask my fab shop if they can do it for not much added cost. This design is still plenty strong, but isn't too complicated.

Well, I really want to get some of these fabbed up next week, so I think I will give a starting deal on the prices. Also, since I haven't designed up a front bar and when I do, I am going to offer a combined deal. So....for those that buy one now, I will give them a discount later once the fronts are completed. The reason why I really want to get these started is because the Fronts are a little more involved so it might take several attempts at getting them right.

Sooo.... I can assure you that the final products will be very nice and well made and all will be test fitted on several e30s before I send them out.

Pm so I can get yours started on monday.

i was also thinking all of the stress is on the welds, if the design is updated to asses that, i might be game.
Wait, you both have small dogs? thats kinda

Look at other strut bars... some even have less welding on them then mine and all the stress is on the welds. In all honesty, the bar should never see stresses great enough to break the welds. That would take alot of force, probably far far greater then anything your car would ever see.

If it will get more interest, I will look into this.

Might I suggest that you design the front bar so that will also fit a car with an m42 in it. This is what I had to do to a sparco bar to make it fit.

what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.

I fully agree the current setup is enough to handle normal stresses the car would see. Never hurts to make things more robust though.

I hear ya, I think I might be able to figure something out. I make all the tubes, I'll test it out on monday. The other reason I didn't do that way was to stay away from all the designs you see out there. From what I can tell, existing bars don't include a slot in the end of the tube now and I don't like the small amount of well you can get with that style. I'd be more worried about cracking one of like that cause you've got barely any weld.

I had this in my car already and I love it. I can feel a noticeable difference in the handling of the car. The rear feels more stable and I am very happy with the way it came out.

Changing the design a little to improve the strength or the bar. It will be much better this way.

                  More info later today.

This is kinda what i was thinking... you can see the bar on the left, and on the right is the tab, blue is the welds, and red is the bar. For additional strength you(or the buyer) could even drill a hole in the top of the bar and put a bolt/nut through it so it would be impossible for the tab to separate from the bar. Excuse the MS paint skills

I redesigned it similar o that, but I couldn't do the slot in the bar. I made the plate tab on to the tube like other, but I have a total of 8" of full weld holding the plate on to the tube. I worked on this with a fellow member who works as a structural engineer and we work it out this design would be nearly 10x stronger than what I had originally. It would take a huge amount of force to break these welds. I you look at others, they've only got a tiny little welds mounting these plate so I am not worried about it.

See first post for new info!

New Price - $70 shipped. I am going to have them painted black as well. Planned to make 5 right off the bat, but if more than 5 people hit me up tonight, I'll get those started as well.

                      :)

Yeah im liking this much better! The torque pressure will now put stress on the bar instead of the welds. Would still be super sexy if you could slot the bar =]

I looked into it and it really isn't going to make it any stronger. Plus the added work will just make it more expensive.

                            So.... you want one??? :D :D :D
