Remove the covering as it is different from the Saab anyway. You will want to use use the material from the E30 panel anyway so it matches the headliner. I can't find the measurement for the E28 panel, but I know it is wider. Probably longer too so you can cut it down to fit. If not try one from a Volvo or whatever. There are lots of glass roofs at the yard, just none that fit the E30.
Where most sliders are just flat pieces the one for the E30 has a metal bracket on the end that stays inside the roof. Something similar will have to be fabricated . I can supply photos as I have had 4 or 5 glass roofs.
Keep in mind the factory panels are plastic and they have been exposed to the Sun for over 20 years now and they are very brittle. Someone needs to come up with a way to convert a slider from a different car as the E30 ones are few and far between. You do not want to not have the slider, trust me. Like I said I have had a few of these.
I don't have much use for people that don't work on their own cars and can't at least try and fab some of their own parts when needed.

Good to know about the possibility of working with other sliders.
Thanks for sharing this info!
I'm keenly interested in acquiring a glass roof one day - and yeah, it's the ability to work with a worn/ripped slider that seems to [nowadays] be a requisite.Comment

One of the E30 glass panels I found didn't have a slider so I did do a little research on making my own. I went to the dealer first and wasn't surprised to find them NLA. Then I started looking at what might be converted. Before I modified one from another car I sold that glass panel. The buyer didn't care that it was missing the panel.
If you search the For Sale messages you will see that other glass panels have popped up without the sliding panel. So this isn't that uncommon. I have owned 3 BMWs and maybe 6 other makes with glass moon roofs. You have to have the sliding panel, it's not an option. Getting fried everyday during the Summer gets old. I love the Sun and I have had some BMW Cabrios, but I never leave the top down for the whole Summer
BTW - I have been trying to find another car with the same size panel as an E30 for 10 years or more, there just isn't anything. For the E28 cars the Saab panel fits and there are lots of dead Saabs around. But an North American E28 even with a glass moon roof is still a really ugly car.

Oh, you're talking about the sunshade - you made it sound as if you could just easily cut down the GLASS panel. Yea. You go on with your bad self.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment
