Since your such an advanced member maybe you should remember the rule against thread crapping.

I thought the 96 and up m3 racks are 3.2 or 3.5 turns lock to lock and the e30's are 4.0 so even this would be an upgrade over the stock rack just not as good of an upgrade as the z3 or 95 m3.

Yeah, but there is nothing special about 96+ M3 racks and E36 racks are a dime a dozen, well, worth only $100. Also the 1.9L Z3 rack is much more desirable than that of the 95 M3. The 95 M3 rack is 3.2 turns lock to lock just like every other E36 rack other than the 1.9L Z3, but it is "special" because it has a tighter ratio in the center and a higher ratio on the sides, averaging to 3.2.

All Z3 racks except for the MZ3 are the same it doesn't matter if it is a 3.0, 1.9 or whatever.

Oh yeah, forgot the M52 and M52TU powered Z3's! You have to be real careful when buying these online to make sure you get the right one.

Also I was dumb to say the 95 rack was tighter in the center, as it is the opposite. The ratio is taller to the sides.

                this is getting ridiculous

                95 m3: 3.0 ltl
                96+ m3: 3.2 ltl
z3 :2.8 ltl (this is the same rack as the m3 with less wheel travel, ie the steering wheel hits lock sooner because the wheels dont turn as much. at least thats what r3v has taught me)

its a fair price for a great upgrade

The 95 M3 rack has two ratios, a shorter ratio in the center and taller ratio to the sides, so kind of like a regular E36 rack in the middle and a non-M Z3 rack on the sides.
The non-M Z3 rack does not have the same steering ratio as the other E36 racks.
                          All other E36 racks are the same. '93 318iC = '96 M3 = '94 325is = '03 M Roadster = etc...

                          Here is a good source:

                          - LINEAR ratio (same rack travel per input turn across the entire rack length)
                          - 53.5 mm of linear rack travel per 1 360 degree rotation input.
                          - 144.5 mm of total rack travel (translates to 2.7 turns L2L)
                          - installed 13.9:1 ratio

Z3 M racks and E36 M3 racks are the same.
                          - PROGRESSIVE ratio (rack is slower on-center, quicker towards L&R rack locks)
                          - 45.5 mm of linear rack travel on-center per 1 360 degree rotation input.
                          - 145.6 mm of total rack travel(translates to 3.2 turns L2L)
                          - installed 15.6:1 mean ratio
                          - Same p/n rack as E36 non-M, but locks were modified to shorten gear travel from 154.7 to 145.6mm

'95 M3 racks are the slowest and shortest of all US-spec E36 racks, until 200 deg of rotation from on-center.
                          - PROGRESSIVE ratio
                          - 39.0 mm of linear rack travel on-center per 1 360 degree rotation input.
                          - 117mm of total rack travel (translates to 3.0 turns L2L)
                          - installed 17.6:1 mean ratio

regardless of what the rack is in the middle or ends(ie nonlinear), its lock to lock is still 3.0. Also your quote says exactly the same ratios that you inferred to as incorrect.

But saying that it is 3 turns lock to lock is hardly the full story, saying that the non-M Z3 rack is the same ratio as the regular E36 rack but with less travel is completely wrong, and the quote doesn't go against anything I said.
