Had a good conversation with ill4noreason about the hardtop he still has for sale. It has a gash through the entire top that is somewhat visible in the pictures on his link. I'm not concerned about the fiberglass repair or fixing the headliner, but I haven't found anyone who's had the exterior vinyl redone on one of these hardtops. If I buy it, I don't want to remove the vinly and paint the exterior, as others have done. I would want to replace the exterior vinyl, but can't take the risk until I have have some confidence that it's do-able and not cost prohibitive.
