    E30 M3 insturment panel

    i have a very nice M3 e30 instrument panel that came with my car. i switched back to the standard instrument panel so this one is up for sale. everything works except odometer and tripometer. all other lights and panels work properly.

    it's a vdo instument panel and new gears for the odometer/tripometer is only about 40 bucks. fix that and it'll be perfect.

    Are you sure that's an E30 M3 cluster?

    A true E30 M3 instrument cluster has an Oil Temperature gauge --- your cluster has a fuel efficiency (MPG) gauge where the Oil Temp gauge would be.

    But, you have an 8,000 RPM tachometer, which is correct, and the ///M badge. Weird. Maybe the Oil Temp gauge broke?

        Yup. Hate to brake it to you OP, but you just have some painted needles and an M badged e30 cluster. Maybe worth $60-80 bucks @ most as your Odometer and Trip doesn't work.

        Heres what it should look like if it was legit. ;)

          Well, he has the correct tach. A normal E30 has a 7,000 RPM tach. So some of the cluster is correct.

            Nope. It isn't. It's a modified normal tach. Somebody made an 8k tach overlay. (All you need is the overlay and an S38 coding plug and you should be golden.) Also, IIRC, an M3 cluster shouldn't have a CEL.

              Very interesting. If its a fake then it's a good one. All I know is that th RPMs were reading to low to be true which someone on a local board explained to me would happen if I used the stock coding plug.

              I'm more then happy keeping it if that's the case though because everything worked well.

              But in light of these findings I'll adjust the price to 195 shipped.

              Also consider trades for smileys, front mtech bumper, or basketweaves

                It looks like the front cluster housing is a real M3 part but the rest is fake. Look at the difference in shape of the MPG gauge VS the oil temp gauge.

                  It's a hybrid cluster that someone made. Someone put some work into it. The face plate is M3 but who knows about the rest. The speedo isn't from the M3, the tach reads upto 8K which is right but it has a MPG meter instead of the oil temp gauge. It does look the part though.
