Hello I've got a early model G260 the diving board type with the shifter plate pics will be up soon. Bought it when i was doing 5 speed swap but i needed the late model looking to get $200 or best offer need it gone. I have a late model getrag off my m20

Do you know if this will fit an '88 325is without having to get extra parts? I'm trying to research it, and it appears there are actually at least three different Getrag 260 configurations out there. Also do you have any idea of the condition of this trans? I would hate to do the work only to have the same (3rd synchro) problems.

There are 3 differences, some have all or some of them.

Early/late shifter. Early plate needs the two holes tapped for the plate to mount. Some early g260's also have the tabs to mount late shifter, but not all. If you use an early trans w/o those tabs, you have to use early shifter and late shifter if it has no holes for the plate. The other difference is the holes for the crank sensors. Early models need these bosses, late do not, so they are forward compatible but not always reverse compatible.
