I saw in one pic you were using Royal/Excelene welding wire. Since Royal/Excelene is NOT oil resistant and therefore not recommended for under hood applications, do you make lengths with Super Excelene? Super ex IS oil resistant and doesn't have the EP rubber insulation that traditional welding wire does.

I've contacted CCI to inquire about your question and spoke with one of their engineers. He states that the cable is not recommended in non-vented environments or where the cables stays in direct contact with oil or oil vapor for long periods of time. He and I both agree that an automotive engine bay is considered a "vented" environment and that the risk in this application is very minimal.

Attached is a excerpt from their welding product catalog which states oil resistance. Cable used is 10413 and 10412.

Please note the Royal Excelene cable has been replaced several months ago with Flex-A-Prene cable.

Flex-a-prene has almost the same look and properties as Excelene but specifically designed to withstand oil. I have been using it for production of these cables for several months.

Rough current carrying ratings at 12V DC for a 3ft cable of OEM size (4AWG) is about 135 amps at normal vehicle operating temperature. The rating for the 2AWG cable that I sell as a replacement is about 185 amps.

also..in one post you made reference to how the m42 used 3 cables, the standard kit plus an extra at 15 inches long.....so...what is in the m42 kit

For the M42 motor there are two ground cables; Alternator ground and engine ground.

OEM alternator ground = 7 in.
OEM engine ground = 15 in.

So yea, the kit that I sell will work but you will need an additional single 15in cable. When you are ready, send me a PM and I will quote you on that cable+kit.

Yes there is an alternator ground cable also. I am in the process of gathering all required information and will be opening a website that has all this info along with cable sets of other BMW's and European cars. Coming soon.

So with a 140amp alt that I have a 2awg would be the way to go?
That's funny that the stock sized wire can't even handle the juice it puts
out stock.
