I could bet that my plate is "better" than both of yours. and yes, the material of the plate does matter. If you are actually "skidding" on an aluminum SKID plate it will wear at a much quicker rate than steal. Also, aluminum can heat up and deform at a lower temp compared to steel because of skidding. (and could cause the plate to move up towards the pan)

Your rear mounting points are what give the plate a weak spot, and the extra bend makes the cost of one go up as well. Any impact that gets transferred through the rack is highly unwanted. Instead, add tabs to the edges that allow the mounting points to be angled away from the bottom of the plate, and into the sub-fame. This will have the plate "hug" the bottom of the car and gives a guarantee of no ground off bolt heads, in an addition to the lack of this extra bend at the back that is no longer needed. Add a few gussets at the front bend and wolla: a good, strong skid plate that can actually be bashed/ skidded on. not a "scrape" plate.

i have been running this kind of plate for the past few months and it has worked superb. The new rear mounting points really made a difference and i daily smash this plate into the asphalt. im not talking about it scraping the road, im talking about the plate hitting so hard that you feel the car slow down on the highway. scary, but this new design has saved me from needing new rear skid bolts changed every day. literally

This new approach does need a slight amount of modification to work, and maybe all the people that are just slightly low are fine with your plate designs, but anyone that dailys a dumped e30 knows that you NEED a reliable plate and if you are that low you prob have no problem with some slight modifications to allow you to roll low (considering that heavy modification is needed for any ridiculously lowered car) so i would not see a problem with this for that crowd.

no, im not gonna put pics of my plate up,i don't need people hopping off my idea for free, but i have already said enough. wanna see my plate? come take a ride in my car and see what im talking about.

sorry for the hijack, just wanted to end this silly argument properly ;)
