Because fuzz's car is insanely hot, I'll tell you guys straight up how it is.

I have had both the JimC and MarkD, and if you can use 93 octane, get the MarkD. The MarkD just makes the car feel much faster. Say what you will about how slow the M42 is, with this chip, the car is just so much better to drive.

When I switched from the JimC to the MarkD, I noticed an instant difference. I know that the ECU has to relearn the chip, but that first drive with the MarkD was noticably better. You're given more pull in the high end and a whole lot more revs to play with. You don't know M42 fun until your revs go past 7. The revs are really helpful in the autox as well. You can hold the car out longer and gain that edge on other stock M42s.

I wouldn't settle for anything less than the MarkD chip.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

      Found the thread. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ht=markd+318is

Just to clarify, I can use this chip with 92 right? I emailed Mark about his 318is chip and I believe he said it would work. I just want to double check.

Well, the motor can sure, but the harmonic balancer.....can't.

where is the harmonic balancer located? im not entirely sure thats true, many 6 cylinder cars have them for reasons as they are stated [ie the name] no other 4 cylinder that i know of has a harmonic balancer.

Yes you can, the chip is made for 92 octane.. or better i would assume. But for a fact the website says 92 octane.

            Thanks hamman!

front of the crank afaik, this isn't my info, its Pete McHenry's, who knows a little better than most. I might be using the wrong term, but I'm pretty sure thats it...

between Pete, myself and Mark, we pretty much decided 7100 is the safe redline for the motor...

sounds like a job for an aftermarket balancer.. there's tons of them, surely there must be something else that could work.

Stock cams peak at ~6000rpms, so aftermarket cams would be the only real justification for spinning higher IMHO. Not that I wouldn't want to do that, just not worth it though. 7500 would friggin r0ck

good, whoever buys it will find the performance WELL WORTH the expense.

BASTARDS! i only saw this thread today:( i have the aftermarket cams for the chip, i think you should automaticly sell it to me! i have a fleabay dinan chip, the only gains i noticed where the redline increase which is really fun with the cams i put in, and i put injectors in. i need to visit the dyno... after i get a better chip....
