BMW M20 325I AFM Refurbished (Air Fuel Meter)

    ITEM SOLD
Up for sale is a electrically refurbished AFM from a 325I. This AFM will work with any 325I M20 including E28 and E34. Its got some cosmoline on it still and is in great shape mechanically and electrically.

I have refurbished this unit myself. The internal wiper arm has been disassembled and all contacts cleaned. The wiper arm now touches fresh resistor track material. The air inlet temperature sensor has also been tested throughout its range and it is within BMW and Bosch specifications.

As noted in the pictures, the Idle Adjustment Screw has never been tampered with. It looks like many have tried to remove the blue plug but no one was successful.

Here are some pics of the AFM and my testing process...

Close-up of the internal circuitry. Noticed the wiper arm contacts are centered over fresh material, not the worn tracts. Notice the primary contacts coming out of the black connector are shaped to touch fresh material too.

Attempts to open idle screw. AFM's with non tampered idle screws are best to retain BOSCH original specifications.

Here is an oscilloscope capture of the internal flap being opened from 0% to 100% back to 0%. Notice no drops to zero and a smooth curve.

This test simulates 7 full open cycles to show repeatability that the AFM gives true feedback with no signs of "drop out" or drops to zero.

Last test is to take an "up close" look at the flap being opened from 0% to 10% very quickly. Also considered a repeatability test, nice clean signal over and over to show this AFM is truly giving out feedback like it was new.

This AFM is setup and ready to install into your car. This AFM should last another 10+ years. Many driveability problems can be attributed to a bad AFM. Consider most AFM's these days are at least 20 years old. Almost every AFM i've ever opened has looked bad until refurbishment. In my professional opinion, if your AFM has never been refurbished by me or another electrical refurbishment company, then it is bad.

Please see my thread on AFM restoration for more info...

    Asking $140 shipped.

Greg, do you have any sort of 'core' exchange price to go with this afm?

Yes, I'll return a core charge of $20 once I receive your AFM and it is not damaged. The internal flap must easily move from fully open to fully closed without effort.
