I ordered a custom wooden shift knob Nygdup recently. I had a vision in mind and he nailed it and even added his own twist which ended up working perfectly for what I was going for. I requested to have the knob shipped raw with no stain so I could stain it myself. Very affordable and he's super determined to create something that the customer will be happy with.
This is how I received it in raw form. I wanted to paint and stain it so that it matches my Nardi wheel:
I painted the recessed areas black to match the black stripe on the Nardi:
I then sanded the surface of the knob to remove any excess paint and proceeded to stain the rest of it. I have very little experience staining wood so this was kind of a shot in the dark for me. I picked a stain which matched the color of the Nardi perfectly on the label, but the finished product isn't an exact match. Finished it up with a few layers of a glossy polyurethane coating and installed it. Although the stain color is not perfect, I'm still very happy with how it turned out. All it took was one layer of electrical tape around my shift rod and it fits nice and snug. Super stoked on this thing, thank you for the quality product! Here is how it looks:

That Nardi color is a hard one to match. I'm trying to figure out the right combination myself!
By the way, I'm stealing you photo!Comment

Impressive work. Have you thought about doing Ebrake handles as well? I would love a matching set.91 318is M50 swapped

You what might look extra sweet? A wood knob with a roundel worked it and lacquered over so as to look seamless. Kind of like this:
It couldn't be cheap but it looks awesome to me and I'm not really a wood knob/steering wheel fan.Euro S50 Daily Driver: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=279195Comment

Nice, Rich. You need to update the High Line... I would steer clear of a Jaguar themed one. Would instantly cause the vehicle to break down.Comment

If I start selling something with a Roundel in it legal issues arise.Comment

Picked up some laminated wood last week. Whipped this one up over the weekend. And it's for sale! Discounted price of $45 because it does have a small defect at the top. Otherwise I would be charging $65.
