No this isnt a rebuilt steering rack, which would mean it was cleaned up and a few seals were replaced. This is REMANUFACTORED. Which means that all the wear and tear peices were replaced. The teeth on the rack were probably bored out slightly, and a larger gear put in make it tight agian. It felt much tighter then my old 318 that had around 10k less miles
Since the one year i've had the car, ive noticed that it slowly got looser. I went under the car to check it out and when i would turn it the input shaft would move up and down. It was also leaking a little bit. So i thought it was junk and replaced it with a z3 rack. I found that one of the hoses from the PS fluid tank was cracked, and that was the source of the leaking. Just now, I got the big nut off the bottom of the rack, and then found that the nut that holds the input shaft was loose. I put it back on with some red loctite, and the in and out movment is gone, and it was all due to that nut comming off
So its basiclly a brand new rack with 13k miles. I dont even know if i want to sell it but is anyone really interested? I think it cost something like 400 from the receipt that came with the car.
