This just for e30 racks or e36 as well? Airbag or non-airbag only?

It should work for e36 and e46 racks. The length might be different, but that's what the extra rod can be used for. This came off of a non-airbag.

              Why? What's the benefit?

Would be awesome for bmw 2002/e30 rack swap. In the 2002 chassis.

Does this need anything else to bolt up to a stock steering linkage?

Nope. It's a direct swap if you have stock e30 power steering and no air bag. If you have a e36 steering rack, you will have to lengthen the rod which is fairly easy to do with the extra rod that comes with this.

Is there a difference between stock e30 racks with airbag vs. non-airbag? Will this work with an airbag rack?

There's no difference in the rack. I'm not 100% sure if it will fit an airbag car since I know the length of the steering shaft is different.
