Engine is a 3.6L, using m30 block bored to accept m90 pistons, but still uses to longer stroke of the m30. It was rebuilt to by a local guy that works for Sunbelt racing engines, he races m30/m90/s38 e28's and has a lot of experience with these engines. It Probably has about 40k on the rebuild now
M30b35 Head
- Port matched
- New valve guides, new valve seals, and 3 angle valve job
- New rocker shafts, rockers and all related hardware
- BMP Rocker locks
- BMP 290 degree camshaft
- BMP adjustable cam gear
- BMP double valve springs and hardened keepers
M30b35 Block
- 10.5-1 Compression
- Bored from 92.5mm (M30b35 specs) to 93.4mm (Euro M90 specs)
- Used the longer (M30b35) 86mm stroke (as opposed to the 84mm M90 stroke)
- Decked, honed, line honed
- Crankshaft and connecting rods balanced
- New piston rings
- New main bearings
- New rod bearings
- All new seals and gaskets
I also recently started working on adapting s38 throttle bodies. I sourced some plates from overseas to adapt them to the m30, I had the head port matched the throttle bodies and ordered some s38 air horns that I was going to use with individual filters. All thats left is to modify the thermostat housing and change the megasquirt over to Alpha-N.
Overall the engine runs great and pulls hard, driveability with the megasquirt is awesome, you could drive it every day. It also sounds amazing at idle with the 290 cam. Compression test was done recently and it was 160/160/160/160/157/160. I'll be doing a leak down test soon as well. The engine has smoked a couple times during autocrosses. It only has done it on long right hand turns, I've been talking to the guys that race m30 based cars and they said they have had the same issue and it was solved by installing an e30 m3 oil separator. I ordered one yesterday from Blunt. I blew the headgasket on it like 3 years ago, due to a misfire causing a lean condition at high rpms, I fixed the misfire and while I had the head off I completely stripped it. It was checked/decked (barely, .012 I think), I replaced the valve stem seals and re-ground the valve seats. Used a factory BMW m90 headgasket (stock thickness) also. Car has been professionally tuned and re-dyno'd (twice) since then.
Just dyno'd it today and it made 213/221, it's running really rich right now too according to the log. It gets down into the mid-11's at the top of a pull. This is safe, but there is still a little bit of power to be had if it were leaned out a bit. I have a dyno sheet and AFR graph to go with the car.
Everything else:
-Transmission- 260/6 from an e34 535i. Shifts great. Has an e34 m5 clutch and lightweight e12 flywheel
-Engine Mounts from Good&Tight with AKG poly mounts (almost new)
-Megasquirt IIv3.0 using stock e34 harness with harness adapter from Jean
-Stahl Long tube headers
-e28 radiator- Behr, new when the motor was swapped
-s38 throttle bodies, adapter plates, and air horns
-Driveshaft, mine is recently balanced, but really could stand to be extended an inch or so. It goes through center bearings a little quickly (or maybe its just me)
-Full exhaust if you want it, It's mandrel bent all the way back, 2.5" into a 14
magnaflow oval muffler. Has a fake cat welded on also. Really loud, but sounds amazing.
What you would need to buy(what I'm keeping):
-Innovate or other wideband o2 sensor- it will run fine without one but I wouldn't recommend it
-E-fan
-THR eyeball arms- For header clearance.
Pics of throttle bodies-

I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, but thats the gist of it. I'll be asking $3,000 for everthing and I think that's a very fair price. I have a lot of time and money into this swap and whoever buys it can just install it and drive. Everything is still in the car now and running great, local people are welcome to test-drive
I'm going to be doing a leakdown test this morning, and can post pics of whatever
