FS: Pete McHenry built m20 stroker

    Hi,

I am posting FS here a 3.0l stroker built by the late Pete McHenry. Below is a description of the engine that I have from an old email from Pete.

"It has been bored and stroked to 2952cc. The compression is 10.2:1. It has forged ultra light pistions, tool steel thin-wall pins, and low drag rings. The stroker crank is a reworked forged steel unit from a late M3. All bearings, seals, waterpump, cam drive, etc are new. The cylinder head has mild porting and is fitted with a Schrick 284/272 dual pattern cam and dual valve springs. Valve guides and seals were all replaced with new. As previously noted, the extreme stroker (7/16") makes use of oil ring support rails because there is little room left above the pin for all 3 rings. This design doesn't hurt power, but it results in higher oil consumption."

That is the description of the engine when I received it roughly 10 years ago.

Mechanically I have not done anything else to it apart from maintenance and wear items. Engine mileage is roughly 40-60k, and that is a very rough estimate.

    Notable maintenance
    - Head Gasket changed about a year ago, blew btw 4&5
    - Water pump replaced recently with early model unit

    Asking $1500 picked up
Willing to work out shipping, Price includes the long block only (no power steering, no flywheel, no wiring harness)

Never got to a dyno so I can't give any accurate power statements.

When you changed the head gasket was there any indication of what caused it to go? From my knowledge of M20s that is not too common on an NA motor.

Compression numbers? I don't remember if you posted those in the original thread.

I did post compression in the other thread, let me get a link to it.

Feeler: Pete McHenry M20B30 stroker, Miller War PSIK, getrag 245/11 dogleg, more

I did forget to hold the throttle open during the comp test, donno how much effect that would have.

I don't know a reason for the gasket going. I just know it went. When I replaced it I didn't have the time to get the head decked I just installed a new gasket. Motor didn't overheat, and never has to my knowledge. Consistently runs BTW 1/2 and 1/4 on the temp gauge.

Has the motor run since the HG? Those compression numbers are after the HG? The mileage after the HG?

Yes the head gasket was more than a year ago. The compression numbers were a couple months ago. It has been my daily driver for nearly a year.

The mileage estimate is as it sits now. And it is a wide range estimate due to the mistakes of keeping poor records while swapping the Motor in/out 2 or 3 times into 2 different cars over the past 10 years. My bad... It's under 100k miles though, that much I'm sure of. I want to estimate somewhere close to 60k.

In the original thread you mentioned posting leak-down numbers, but I never saw them.

I'm quite interested in the motor as it is nearly exactly what I have been planning to build, and would save me a fair amount of time and effort to buy instead of build. I just wish there were some more solid details on what the specs are.

Any idea how much shipping would run to 48025?

Yeah I never got around to the leakdown test, and they really need to be done on a hot engine.

As for build details I've given as much info as I have
