    Feeler: Under Dash AC Hoses

These are the ones above the glove box and are the original non barrier r12 hoses. The ones on my Cabrio have been porous since I did the ac upgrade in my build thread, but the leak was slow enough to just require a top up 2-3x/season.

This year the hoses made holding a charge impossible. Since I knew a replacement was coming I had actually bought a pair of NIB hoses from Europe on eBay but since they too were non barrier I decided to have them upgraded to barrier.

Understand that one of these is NLA and the on ther is $175'from ECS. Shops who can do the upgrade exist but I had a hard time finding one. Once I did I was able to send off my new hoses and can now do the replacement in one swift job instead of having to remove them, send them out and leave the system open and the console out for a week...etc etc

I have access to cores and the shop I used is willing to work with me if I send them several sets to do at once. The pi shows the quality of the work and they would have rubber insulating tape as per OE hoses.

So my question is how much interest is there to buy a pair of refurb barrier hoses to swap for what is guaranteed to be non barrier hoses in your e30 and what would seem like a reasonable price ?

I had to look it up and found that barrier hoses are for r134a. I'd be interested.

I should not have assumed that everyone undrstood that difference so thanks for pointing it out and thanks for your interest.

R134a has smaller molecules than r12 so tends to work its way through non barrier hoses. The EPA has noted that the mineral oil used as a lubricant with r12 even after a thorough flushing, will "help seal" non barrier hoses when converted to r134. there are lots of cases where there have been no hose problems when converting including on one of my previous cars

However, if they leak that's it and you either find someone who can repair them or you live without ac.
