    Feeler: One-touch window modules

I've posted the thread about the automatic headlights...

My friend (EE) and I are thinking about building some modules for the windows as well.

    We're thinking:

Tap either direction twice = all the way up/down
    - this would allow you to manually control the height with just holding the button down once
    - also if you hit either direction when it's automatically on its way up/down, it would stop the window

Option: Thermal sensor built in that would crack the windows when the interior temperature rises above 100 F.

We would try to make it as plug-and-play as possible, but it would probably involve tapping into the stock harness wires.

Any interest in this? We'd keep it under $100 for the whole thing.

Would be much better if you could design one to work with 1-touch e36 switches. Two pushes of the e30 switch is hard work.

Would you guys like it better to just use the e30 switches and give it one quick tap to lower/raise all the way instead of using the e36 ones?

the one-touch e36 ones? do they have a 2-click depress?

It seems like it would be easier to just program the chip with a regular switch and have any depression of the switch for less than .25 seconds = all the way down. Anything longer than that would override it and you'd have manual control. And of course if it's on its way down or up automatically, you'd just have to tap either direction for it to stop.

so when you guys say that you're wanting them for the e36 switches, are you expecting to get a pair of switches with the module? or do you all already have the e36 ones in your cars?

either way, i mean.. if you'll sell the switches WITH the module.. i'll still buy it, but if you just plan on makin the modules.. i'll still have to buy e36 switches anyway.. heh

I like this idea and would pay for it weather it be e30/e36 switches. Also has to have the thermo sensor.

Well we won't be providing e36 switches with any of the modules, however, we can certainly make the modules work with either the standard or one-touch e36 switches. We'll just need the e36 wiring diagram for installation instructions.

We're hopefully going to program a project board this weekend for a preliminary test. I'll keep every one updated.

Actually I believe there have already been a few people who have successfully integrated an E36 one touch window system into an E30.

When I was talking to Ely (rs4pro3) about it this past weekend he mentioned that he knew someone that had accomplished a full E36 one touch swap though it's a little more intesive than just installing regular E36 window switches.

I would buy a kit if it came with E36 window switches.

BTW.. the Thermo sensor is a good idea only if you can accomodate it with a rain sensor so it knows to roll the window back up if it starts to rain.
