      Assuming the box is correct for the ECU, this is a chip for a manual transmission with a 525 ECU.

          Auto and manual ECU's are interchangeable. The 525 is the one with a speed limiter and came in the auto.

          This chip will work in any Motronic 1.3 (173, 525, 380, etc any with a single circuit board inside).

          No, the 153 is Motronic 1.1 and came in the early 325i. The 153 variants have 2 circuit boars inside and all those ECU's can interchange chips.

            This chip worked on 173 ecu on my manual 1990 325is.
