    FS Cat cam and matching springs

    I was going to stroke my motor and cam it with this, but I have since decided to go the s50 route. New cam and springs, never installed.
    I bought it from Surebimmer on Baye30.
    Here is what he wrote about the company.
    CatCam's 273/273 Brand New

    Catcams offer excellent performance and are considered by many to be more agressive than Schrick cam profiles. Based in Belguim, Catcams have been designing and manufacturing High Peformance Camshaft products for over 15 years.
    I paid 400 for the cam and the springs. I want to get that back.

    there are results on bimmerforums for catcams but its a 288, my 273/273 catcam is being installed right now, but unforuntely i can provide not feedback at this point. nice looking product though.

            This cam should be used with a build out. do the head, Stroke the motor, the whole shebang.

              From my understanding (and I could very well be wrong) a 273 should be ok in a gently massaged motor. When you get to 288, you start running into severe idle complications. The most important thing I see here and love is the fact that he is selling the valve springs as well; this is very important as the stock springs are most likely worn with age.

                  Are the springs upgraded in strength or are they new stock replacements?

                      They are matched for the duration of the cam, so I would say they are stronger.

                          I don't believe so, I am sure an aftermarket/ piggyback would add to the performance, but then you would add a maf and other such goodies.

                            I have a 273 in my car, I had to rebuild the head and replace the cam when I bought it so I decided to upgrade while FB was doing the group buy. I don't have all the mods done to my car that I would like, but I can tell you that in a relatively stock 2.5 it works very well. I did some mild head porting and installed the cam with new stock springs. The shortblock is stock, intake is stock except for 19 lb injectors (another out of sequence mod), and the exhaust is stock. No chip. Bear in mind that I plan to end up with a 2.8 stroker with proper engine management and exhaust.

                            The car will pull from 1500 rpm in 5th, and really starts to pull after 3500. I don't have any dynos or 1/4 mile times, sorry. Fuel mileage at 80 mph is 26-27 mpg. It also runs very well right up to the limiter.

                            So it will work in a fairly stock engine, and (hopefully) will be very good in a more radical but still streetable engine.
