      interesting...when I did my swap the manual starter was smaller than the auto and they were both m20b25

            hmmm could it be with the computer change in '87
            I swapped from manual euro-spec 1986 325i to auto us-spec 1987 325i

                I used the starter from my automatic for the 5 speed swap.. was the same as my manual car, just newer/cleaner.
