M Tech shift knob with non dog-leg insert pattern

Hi everyone. I'm having trouble finding a place to pick one of these shifters, or even just the insert up.

I'm looking for this type of shifter:

Except instead of the dog-leg insert I'm looking for the normal type of pattern, like the one on the left:

Any insight? has anyone ever found one of these? Are they crazy rare or something?

If you have one I'll consider buying it off you for the right price, and if it is in good shape.

    Thanks everyone.

how strange...I just pulled this knob with the number 2 insert from my white M3. The problem with it is it has too much flex since it's rubber. If you use it with a short shift kit as I am, it will eventually start cracking/breaking.

Hrm. Are there any similar knob types that aren't rubber?

I'm sure there's a harder leather version. There's also the 1 pc knob and boot M3 shifter but you're going to pay a premium for that.

I have the harder leatherbound one in my car. I saw it chilling in a 325es in the junkyard. A previous hound stripped it of its insert and I waited weeks to find a new one.

I like mine, but I may be persuaded to part with it..

Isn't that just the stock knob for early IS's? My 87 had that knob when I got it, but I ditched it for a ZHP knob.

The new insert? At the junkyard lol
It was attached to a destroyed rubber doorknob shifter (like the one your looking to get). I just plundered it of it's insert since it was in decent shape

I believe the iS came with the standard 5 speed oval knob. No m insert. That's how my 88is was and I got it from the original owners.

I had to buy the leather doorknob...knob...with the BMW roundel and the Mtech stripe separate and put them together. Both are still sold new. You can try that Ebay link, or have bluttech get you the shift pattern and buy the leather doorknob shifter anywhere.

So it looks like my doorknob shifter will go for sale

Let me know if you still want it
