That's what we call the "Pyramid Radio" (the shape of the joystick). The official designation is Alpine CM5908 and it came on later model E30s with the Premium Sound system, and also came in a few other models from that era. There is one or two on Ebay right now.
I think that it will only work in cars that have the Premium Sound system since they have the amp in the trunk. What year/model is your E30? Does it have Premium Sound? If not, i don't think it will work.Randy Walters
