I am looking for a gauge pod to replace the ashtray or the space above the ashtray in my '88iX.

I made this out of plexiglass. All I did was put 2 screws in the ash tray to keep the panel from sinking in. And put 1 or 2 screws in the side of the center console to keep the panel from sinking in near the top.

If you plan on running 3 gauges in the future, but only have 1 at the moment, I can drill the one hole completely. For the other holes, I only drill a very small hole for the center when you decide to open up the other holes for more gauges.

that looks pretty good! Ill think about it. Could you perhaps use standoffs instead of having screws in the side of the console?

I'm not exactly sure what a standoff is. But its pretty much up to your imagination. Whatever you have that will make it stay in place will work fine. If you want a pic of how I did it, just let me know and I'll get one.
The vinyl that is wrapped on the plexiglass will make it have a snug fit so it doesnt fall out.
