Early or late crank pulley? The crank pulley coincides with the cooling system. The early ones are thicker near the teeth and collide with other components on the late 2.5 engines.

I think the OP wants a crank trigger wheel. I don't know which years differed in thickness but I can tell you that our '89 325iX had a slim wheel and we replaced it with one from a '91 325iX engine that was a wide wheel and works fine.

The reason for replacing was because the original trigger wheel on the '89iX started to hit the water pump pulley because the rubber in the trigger wheel started to separate. The trigger wheel acts as a harmonic balancer.
