WTB: LSD for a good price

I am in the Boise, Idaho area, but I could pay for shipping as long as it's not too outrageous.

I have a 1989 325i coupe with the stock open diff in it. I'm looking into getting a LSD for it now that I actually have money to upgrade my car.. I don't know what the stock diff ratio in my car is, and I haven't seen any marking on the diff case either. It is my daily driver so I would prefer something similar so that it's not screaming on the highway but still good low-end power (if that's possible, since I would like to try and start drifting it). I'm a bit of a beginner at this so I don't know the exact gear ratio I should get.

Looking to pay somewhere around $200-300 for a good condition one, I feel that's a decent price but if you have one for cheaper I'll gladly buy it :) If someone could give me more info in this thread to help me out with my search I would appreciate that.

The diff you have in your car currently is a 3.79 ratio. Really a 3.25, 3.43 (I think that's what it is) or a 3.79 lsd will be good. I had a 3.25 that I sold to a Canadian two weeks ago. I know someone in the valley with a 3.79 he is probably willing to sell, will save you money on shipping.

I actually think the diff you are looking for is a 3.73 lsd. My e30 is a 325i 1989 as well and thats what it had as stock. I will have mine for sale whenever I get my 2.93 put in.

S3.73 for a manual, S4.10 for an auto. those were the configurations offered from the factory on an 89 i. the iX had a viscous 3.91 on manuals and a viscous 4.10 on the autos

If you're still looking OP I have a 3.91 and 4.10 iX VLSD and a 4.10 clutch LSD available.

So the 2.93, does that give you more top end speed, and slower acceleration?

A 2.93 would not be a good choice for a stock 325i. It would give you a higher theoretical high speed (taller) and weak acceleration. Your shifting sweet spots in 2nd, 3rd and 4th would be weird and I bet your mileage would not be better due to lugging the engine.

I have had a 3.23 in my car and liked it OK on the highway, but it was not great in the hills of WV.

I would not go taller than 3.46 in a stock 325i. 3.46 would be a good highway gear and 3.64 would be a good compromise gear if you want to go a little taller than stock.

Correct, it does give better top end speed and slower acceleration. But like packratbimmer said, its not good for a stock 325i. Mine has an s52 swap and at 70 mph on the interstate, I'm doing 3700 rpm. That's why I'm putting the 2.93 in soon, hopefully will drop to 3000 rpm at 70 lol.
PM me if you're interested in my 3.73
