I have an 89 ix auto sedan. The tranny is dead, I am in the market for swap parts to manual but would also consider another auto to keep the vehicle running until suitable manual found.
What exactly are talking about? I am thinking transmission, transfer case, pedals, any wiring to go with that? Is it a partial transfer case or complete unit?
I have lots of questions, sorry it will be my first attempt at a conversion from auto to manny. I tried to PM, hope it went through ok, follow up post in thread to make sure.
On another note I found a source to rebuild the auto. Import Performance transmissions in Hawthorne NJ. Anybody ever heard of them? This may be a subject for another thread...
Anyway please let me know. I figured on having to rebuild used manual trans before installation, makes sense to go through transfer case at same time etc. Just trying to think about what all needs done. Its a 25 year old car probably everything.
It is an easy conversion. No drive shafts to worry about. Unplug the Auto harness and plug in one wire. BOOM you are done. The hardest part of the job is the top starter bolt!

The cruise will work if you remove the auto harness. There is no crimping and splicing required. There is a nice write-up on here somewhere. I'll try to find it. Make sure to get the clutch switch and bracket with the pedal assembly.
Just keep in mind that the auto. harness is simply "interrupting" current from the ignition switch. One just has to remove a wire from the auto. harness and plug it into the ignition switch. It is that easy! Now I did not say that the wires are easy to find and get to...
