Cats WTB. Old, bad, good, unneeded- OEM only.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like it says in the title, I'm looking to buy old BMW catalytic converters. Must be OEM and the core must be intact. They can be "bad", or good or questionable- they will be recycled anyway. Do not need any of the pipes, just the cats cut off with maybe an inch or so of pipe at each end. This will make it easier and cheaper to ship

Please email me , let me know what you have (what specific car they came from and how many you have) and I'll give you a firm quote on what I can pay you for them. I can do Paypal or mail you a check or MO.

Will pay ~$25-60 EACH shipped to NC for most OEM BMW cats (cars like E36 325/328/M3 have 2 cats per car). E30 325/325e/325i cats are worth around $40-50 each to me, even E30 M10 318i and E21 320i cats are worth something... Don't let the muffler shop keep them if you have to get the old ones cut out and replaced!!! Send them to me and I'll send you some $$$!!!

    Thanks!!

    Bret

no shit, you wouldnt want to buy a million of these and take a $20 hit per cat. Theres some profit here. If we all comply, does that mean you will drop all your ridiculously high prices?

If you wanna see a ridiculously high price, look on ebay at the $150-$200 used, beat up cats being sold for scrap.

Not sure what your point is exactly.

I wouldn't be doing this if I weren't planning to make a little $$$. But if the alternative is for you to throw them in the trash or have someone haul them off as scrap steel- then what is the problem?

If you want to deal with Ebay, go for it. If you want to deal with me- I'll pay you up front based on your description of what you've got, THEN you send me the cats.

So, my offer still stands, if you think it's worth your time- then shoot me an email, if not, then that's up to you- but spare me the thread crapping. *cough*cough* JoethepaleItalian* cough*

Hey Bret, how about you can have all the east coast cats, and I can have all the west coast. we can divide at the Mississippi? :)
Be careful about the later model E36 cats, they are foils.

I've sold 2 Cats on Ebay this past month. The older cats are worth $$ cause they have platinum in them that scrap buyers can salvage.

One off a 633csi M30 went for $225.00 and one of the dual cats from my brother's 89 325i went for $185.00.

At those prices, they were not getting scrapped...

BTW, I think it is Rhodium, not platinum, though, don't quote me on it.
                      Edit: it's both http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalytic_converter

There's a guy here in Knoxville (can't remember their name) that buys good cores and pays almost as much as Ebay does in cash. A friend of mine who scraps old VWs recently dropped off a few cats there and left with $1500 cash. He's the one who told me they wanted them for the scrap platinum.

holy crap....how much rhodium is in a cat?

                            Catalytic converter theft

Due to the use of precious metals including platinum, which is worth up to $1,200 an ounce; palladium, which can fetch $320 an ounce; and rhodium, which can go for up to $6,000 an ounce on the market, catalytic converter theft is on the rise. The problem is especially common among mid-90s to present Toyota sport-utility vehicles and trucks, due to their high ground clearance and bolt on catalytic converters, which are easy to remove. Other SUV's and trucks are at risk of theft; theft can be accomplished within five minutes by thieves using a battery powered reciprocating saw.
