Preferably e34 or e32...doesn't really matter as long as it's 3.5l :)

You want an e32 or an e34 motor. Correct oil pan. Get the gen 3 motor m30b35, has 208 HP and 225 TQ. Chipped will be 250 HP and 260 TQ.

since i've never done the swap i can't say...but from what i've read (and you should too) it's not terribly difficult

Just read that entire writeup and WOW, so detailed and the swap doesn't seem to be terribly difficult if you just have time. good luck with your swap, i won't be able to do one for a few years sadly cause my car is my daily.
