Okay, 5.5 months later and the "nearly new" pump went out. Time for another "nearly new" one. What do you all have? Not looking to spend another $175 again -

Uhh, can't you get a new one for around $175? Check koperformance.com I just picked up an early model in-tank pump for $150 shipped.

If you want an in-tank pump to last more then a few months, get a new one. They are junk straight from the factory, going with a used one is just asking for it...

Get a new one. We sell them for $229 shipped @ KO. That way the pump is warrantied for 12 months and if anything like this happens again we got you covered. ;)

Edit: hahahah thanks Justin. Your parts shipped out today btw.

How come. do You have a dirty old tank?
This was a basically brand new pump. Was no more than 2 months in a clean 3-yr old tank.
Have you applied juice directly to the pump to test it. Do so before you toss it out. I did have problems in the past with the connector at the pump not making proper contact.

                  Scent,

the car was sitting for about 3 years before I picked it up. We drained the tank and it looked pretty decent inside. I will pull it out and hook it straight to the battery to see if it runs. If no go.. then I will check out KO.

So, bad news.. it was the pump.

Good news.. its working. I hooked the fuel pump straight up to my battery using jumper cables (it was all I had). The pump didn't do anything.

When Scent told me to put some "juice" to it, I remembered something. When I took an engine-tear down class for Navistar, my instructor had worked for BMW's fuel systems for many years. He told me e30's were known for their fuel pumps giving problems. He said reverse polarity fixed the vast majority of the issues he encountered. I guess there are little needles or something in the pump which easily get clogged from particles (aka crap) in the tank. All you have to do is hook it up backwards to spin the particles out.

Sure enough, I put the jumper cables on backwards and it immediately spun out the clogged particles. Then I connected the cables the correct way and it started running with no problems.

Oh, yeah... running smooth and no more bogging out at high RPM's. Added bonus + the pump doesn't hum loudly anymore. Nice and quiet..

                    thanks!

hahahaha wtf... thats crazy. I'll have to keep that tidbit of info in the back of my mind. Actually, I'm going to try it on my dead pump while I wait for the new one...
