That was probably me. After looking for 4 years, it would've cost you a lot to "scoop" them. My max bid was almost $400. I WANTED those m/fs. But it only got into the $50 range... :D
how much do the front iX's mudflaps usually go for?
SC*AR

I am not sure you are up for this, but since you have a New Old Stock set of front mudflaps, you might want to invest a little and take them to a mudflap manufacturer, and have them cast a new set in quantities. Would be a great business opportunity, and the rest of us i'm sure would pay for a set. i wanted to do this myself, but since i haven't found a set it's a little hard....
think about it.... there are tons of ixer's wanting a set. no joke.
I asked a friend whose family is in the plastics/molding business about this a while back, and the molds alone would cost several thousand dollars. I do not believe that there is the demand to support the quantity/price required to recoup the investment. Everybody would "love a set", but substantially fewer than all iX owners would be willing to pay the price required to make a "from scratch", "small batch" production run profitable.
If someone could convince BMW (or its OEM supplier) to part with their molds for a reasonable price, I'd do it.
strangely enough, doc, I did just that this afternoon. We're looking into it right now. MIGHT (caps for emphasis) have an answer in the next couple of weeks. The odds of BMW releasing their grip on the molds is very low, but maybe we could work some sort of price-effective way of reproducing them.
As it turns out, Max spoke with BMW Mobile Traditions last week about the e30 stuff moving to BMW MT and the head of that group, when Max mentioned iX stuff, was very surprised that people in the U.S. were putting in the money into iXs. So, at Max's suggestion, I wrote a brief note to him about my enthusiasm for the car (having just repainted/mildly restored what is my foul weather/winter car) and the cult status it enjoys over here. He forwarded it to the head of BMW MT, and it couldn't hurt to have others send testimonials... anything to keep front half-shafts from eclipsing $500 a side, right?
doc -- spoke to a prototyping molding place near me that specializes in car/motorcycle stuff, and I'm meeting with the proprietor on Thursday to discuss pricing/logistics. Evidently, the technology for making stuff like this has progressed since last I inquired (or my friend is a dinosaur -- or both).
