WTB: (1) Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec 225/45/r16

As the title says. These are not available from Tire Rack until the middle of June and of course I ran over a screw on the freeway (unfixable I was told). Let me know if anyone have any extra one that they can send my way.

    Thanks,
    Ian

Or conversely if anyone wants (3) slightly used ZII's (about 1-2 months only driven on the weekends with one auto-x event), I may have to get a new setup and sell these for someone's "extras"...maybe I'll go back to 225/50's ;)

Not really sure what to do at this point. Any advice would be helpful.

Let me guess, puncture is near the sidewall and the shop says it flexes too much there yadda yadda? I've seen some crazy holes patched up by off roaders... My inclination would be to find someone to plug that thing and see how long it lasts. It'll probably last the life of the tire, my bet. Go to a 4x4 shop if the tire store guys are too wimpy. If it's a front tire, move that wheel to the back and maybe avoid warp speed in the canyons. Should buy you plenty of time until the next batch arrives.

BTW: I tried to order a set of those tires the day after they went out of stock. When Tire Rack gave me the ETA I just about ate a cyanide pill.

Yes you are absolutely correct! It's where the sidewall meets the flat belt. That is exactly what the shop's are telling me though. No one will touch the tire because of the location of the bolt...maybe I'll try an off road shop, but I bought these tires to tear up the canyons not to cruise around town. Sounds like you feel my pain! Ughh it's been frustrating. Not sure why they didn't order a bunch more stock since they knew these would go like hot cakes with the e30/miata crowd. Oh well I'll try to ride it out until they come back in stock.

Yeah, see if an off road shop that does tire stuff will plug it. Explain to them your not some soccer mom and you take responsibility for your equipment and how you use it. It just needs to last a couple months. Off road guys pay big $$$$$ for tires, so they know every trick in the book to keep air in them.

Worst case, buy four different tires and wait until the Dunlops come back in stock. Then you have two good sets to beat on or a full set to sell.

I bought the Bridgestone RE71R 205/50R16 from the Rack. Good price with the $70 rebate they have going now. My wheels are 7.5" width, and they fit perfect. The tires are wider than a typical 205. I'm actually glad I ended up with them rather than the 225/45, I think those would be better on an 8" wheel (I'm guessing your running 8's)

          …custom cars, custom problems...

Exactly! That is a solid idea to go with the 205/50 and I've also been looking at maybe going to back a 225/50 for the RE-11...probably don't gain much width though for the height gained. There are just so many solid options in the 225/50. I am running an 8" wide right now. Also having two sets sounds like a good idea...especially since I won't get my money back for the ZII's I already have. Just don't have any place to store the extra set. I guess we'll have to see. Thanks for the advice man. I appreciate it.
