Someone got a great deal!
Interesting you say that. I noticed there are at least 3 different versions of these. One is actually stamped by BBS and the center around the hub is deeper than this one. The other one is like the BBS, but has a different stamp. They're all genuine BMW though. I'm assuming the BBS one is made by BBS and BMW or BBS contracted manufacture to at least 2 other companies? The quality seems the same between them though as far as I can tell. Then of course there is the new clone that doesn't have any BMW stampings and the quality of that one is definitely lower.Comment

From what I gather BMW contracted with several different wheel manufacturers for the 15” weaves during the production run. They all have the same specs (not including ix weaves obviously) and are probably indistinguishable aside from the stamping.
I’m just being a little OCD in wanting a BBS version to use as a spare for my BBS euroweave set. Oddly, the BBS version don’t have BMW stamped on them. Now some people may say the BBS version are the better, because BBS made them, I don’t know. Most people probably don’t care but it might be a good topic for discussion...

Yes that makes sense as to why my mine are only stamped BBS and with no BMW markings. This thread has the BBS/BMW version
If that’s true then there are at least 2 BBS variants because the one I have here with BBS stamped on it also has BMW stamped on it. I think it would make sense that the ones they sold themselves as RZ don’t have BMW stamped on them because their catalogue also shows them as being for VW, but the ones they made for BMW do.sigpic

Okay, so this wheel was made by Fratelli Pedrini Sarezzo in Brescia, Italy which also made Alpina wheels. I read here that there were also some made by Fundo in Høyanger, Norway. Hard to say which are better. It would be interesting to weigh them to see if there are any differences.Comment

Ha, that's so funny. I just found the same thread.Comment

There doesn’t seem to be much consistency in their weight. One BBS I weighed is 16 lbs 7 oz. An unknown manufacturer one is about exactly 16 lbs. One FPS one is 16 lbs 4 oz and another FPS is 16 lbs 13 oz. So a range of about 13 oz. in the set I weighed.Comment

So I guess ideally if you had a bunch of these it would be best to match them by weight and not manufacturer.Comment
