anyone ever look into filling and drilling a set of e34 Style 5's (2 piece BBS wheels)? they should have the smaller centre bore and shouldnt have the problem of where the centre is to thin...

I pondered the idea of a straight bolt hole while using a stud kit instead of the tapered countersink to give more room between the centerbore and filled holes, but came to the conclusion that it wouldn't help.
Any thoughts?-tim

The problem with 'other' BBS wheels is that they tend to cost a great deal more than the e38 rims.Comment

If you rotate the drill pattern just slightly clockwise in the picture i posted you free up another hole with a slight buffer zone for two holes with two being placed in the "fills".
Also the old holes (5x120) on that specific wheel had extra surface area filled in where the tapers where. That way the owner could smooth out the surface to look better.-tim

The thing is, e30 hubs/wheels are hubcentric, meaning most of the load is put in the hub at the center bore, not the lugs. The lugs merely hold the wheel against the rotor, not into position. The only issue I see would be with welding the holes. Welding would obviously change the metals material properties anywhere it was heated hot enough. Whether it would soften or harden the are would depend on how slowly it cooled. If it cooled too fast, then it would create a brittle spot in the wheel. But the fact that it would be in the center of a large flat area, I wouldn't think this would affect the wheel's performance in anyway.
But what do I know. I'm certainly not educated in wheel-redrilling-will-it-break technology.Comment

I have found a possible alternative to this project...
I can have these made in 16 x 8, 4x100 with e25 and 57.1 mm center bore making them exactly direct fitment.
I have to order 40 wheels at minimum though.
Price would be exactly $800 shipped for a set... I am thinking this would be a better route, but can still do the redrills as well.
