    POLL: New high performance M20 intake manifold

    Hey guys,

    I woud like to conduct a poll to see if there is a market for a higher performance intake manifold for the M20. I wanted to conduct a test market to see if there is enough demand for a mass produced high performance intake manifold. heres the general breakdown of the manifold...

    * improved plenum design
    * light weight
    * possible larger throttle body options
    * obviously better looking
    * around 15-20HP gain (dyno proven of course)
    * cheaper than extrude hone (probably around $400-450, instead of $600 for EH)

    again... just curious :twisted: :D

        a few people may be interested, but I doubt many will commit without at least a prototype

          Build a better mouse trap

          I have an Extrude Honed intake manifold. Got it done for $450 on a group buy several years ago. If your only other performance mod is a chip, then the only performance gains from having an Extrude Hone intake occur at 4000rpm and above. Below that the car runs the same as with a stock intake manifold.

          So if your new manifold could improve performance on the low end as well, then in addition to being lighter and less expensive, it would provide better performance gains. Don't know if this is possible or how it would be done though.

                    If you can get that kinda power out of it I would be interested in it for the price, design it so its easier to get the damn fuel rail off and keep lots of updates with photos while you are making it.

                          If you can get 15-20hp out of that I will definately buy one, but you won't. I'm still interested though.

                            hey guys, I FINALLY got my extra stock manifold in and did some measurements, here are my findings with the most accurate DIGITAL Caliper possible.

                            Runner Ports Insides: width= 34mm, height= 36mm
                            Runner Ports Outside: width= 44mm, height= 48mm

                            The Throttle body OPENING = 64mm, but the actual throttle plate is between 58-60mm (most bmw throttle bodies reduce in the neck, E36 one is 70mm opening and reduces down to 64mm plate).

                            An interesting side note. The intake manifold is actually a decent design. The runners ARE equal length when compared to each other (all 3 are roughly 18.5-19inches long). HOWEVER, what is more important is the distance from the head ports to the actual throttle body opening, that is more important in my opinion. the actual distances from header port to throttle body plate are....

                            Inside runners= 22 inches
                            middle runners= 24.5 inches
                            outside runners=26.6 inches

                            M20 manifold + TB = 21.6lbs

                            anyways this gives me alot of =vital info of what kinds of airflow i need and what diameter primaries i need to run and etc. Should be interesting to what i come up with :) .
