I'm a little worried about my being low and the headers bottoming out. Is there an easy way to modify these so that they tuck nicely instead of hanging a inch or so lower than factory? I'd hate to have to hack up a set of new headers... but fuck scraping.

The only easy thing to do would be to raise the engine a little bit higher (i.e. put a spacer between the engine mount and the rubber spacer) It will chew up your guibo a little bit quicker, but I suppose it's better than ruining your headers. I haven't tried it, but I've heard of some guys lifting their engine so that the oil pan sits just above the subframe.

You could also raise your ride height to something more realistic ;)

my volvo lip is 3 fingers from the ground(but its kinda been shaved down a bit), so if ur higher then that you should be fine unless your going over massive speed bumpers or some serious dips.

Meeh, screw raising the engine and messing with the geometry. I'd rather have the shop bologna cut the headers at the point where they tuck under the car, either that or cut a 1/2" section of the pipe out right before that bend so it'll be tucked nicely. Only prob is that I want to wrap them... so take it to the shop to put it on to measure, take it off to cut and weld, then take them back home to wrap, then back to the shop for final fitment. I dunno, just some ideas. Currently I'm on H&R sports but I'm switching over to the German Engineering setup I got from the group buy. Probably gonna be 1/2 way between low and slammed.

Just found this thread - figures it was started the day after I ordered coated headers from Korman - at least I won't be disappointed in their quality control, unlike that fleabay crap.

I'm curious - are there any power benefits to the catless midpipe and these headers paired with an IE exhaust and MarkD chip? I have a stock M20 other than those parts. I'm sure the specE30 guys have a similar exhaust setup, but with rebuilt engines of course!

You'll here mixed responses on the advantages gained by going catless, but for the most part it's a 1-2HP gain, if that. Long tube headers (such as these), however, will provide a significant boost to your low to mid range. Short tubes provide better for the high range, and are thus better suited for race cars.

Here's an actual test of the performance gains when going catless. It's on a honda, but still a good read.

A 5hp gain would practically double the HP in my eta. That would be sweet! New Hampshire doesn't care if my 26 year old car is with or without a cat as long as they get their registration and inspections fees.
