That caliper even has better brake line positioning. Oh well, time to swap out my 540 calipers for 530 calipers. Wonder why they are different...

CONFIRMED! Z4 Hubs installed WITH e39 530i rear calipers. (not 540i)
This is the Z4 hubs installed using the bracket provided in the kit with NO spacers installed. Although i might consider putting some small ones in there for better centering. In the last picture is a 3 position code listed on the top/front of the caliper that indicates the caliper dimensions. The 530i calipers have the same last two dimensions which is rotor size and thickness. As I've been told by a german friend, the first number indicates the brake cylinder diameter which would make this 2mm larger than the 540 calipers.

Well, I ordered all the same parts, except i have 535 calipers. the brake pad part numbers are the same. as for the first number in the sequence, my german friend tells me it means the caliper piston size. which would make the one i have slightly larger. we shall see when parts arrive and i get a nice day to install everything.

In regards to ebrake, I am using the z3 assembly a la http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/Handbrake

Regarding 535 vs 540 calipers, the 540 aluminum ones are the ones you want. Not sure if 535 work but 540 definitely do

After doing some research and finding out that 540i rear calipers are marked with 40/20/298, and the 535i calipers are marked with 42/20/298, i can't be too far off. I found a thread on bimmerforum where someone briefly explains the last two numbers of their front calipers where 20 would be the rotor thickness and 298 would be rotor diameter. A quick search returned no results on what the first number means exactly. although, logic tells me that it probably has something to do with its position from the carrier bracket. I just don't know if its in or out. To save some money, i bought z4 hubs instead of the e30m3, which have, iirc, a 2-3mm offset from the e30m3 hubs. If i am right about the first number designater being position relative to the carrier, maybe i'll get lucky and not have to use spacers on the bracket.. I'll continue with purchasing the rest of the parts i need and fill yall in later.

If you have any answers or extra info for me about this, please help.

I've had my front stuff installed for some time now, and i absolutely love the braking force.. i am now ordering parts for the rear. i got some 535i rear calipers from the junk yard hoping i could use those, because they where $10. Anyone know if i can slap the 535i rear calipers on instead of the 540i ones? Or am i just shit outta luck and should just ebay the ones i need?

The rear e46 m3 ID is much larger, so are the parking shoes, but I think I came up with a solution. I'll try to do it this weekend.

The car I installed the kit on hasn't had some of the parts for the E brake since I got it, and I haven't put them on yet. You shouldn't have to do anything to your E brake though? The new rotors have the same ID and it all should work just the same as stock.

Assuming you have the back end together, how is your e-brake setup?

No problem! Sort of actually found a solution by accident. Really wanted to drive my car and only had E46M3 front lines, 540i Rear lines, and my E30 lines. Process of elimination was used and turned out a pretty good solution!

Ah, the calipers I bought came with cut lines. But, thanks for the info. I have many parts to order for the rear.

No, the calipers I bought for the front came with lines, so I used those. Then I took the stock E30 lines I took off the front and put them on the rear.
