    Falken Zeix 912

I recently purchased a set of these tires from Discount Tire Direct after reading good reviews in both Consumer Reports and Grassroots Motorsports. I purchased 4 tires in the stock tire size on 195/64-R14 (unfortunately, 205/60 is not available). Shipped to my door, they ran less than $300!!

Consumer Reports rated it there #1 all season performance tire, and Grassroots Motorsport rated it #1 out of 5 tires tested on their Miata test car. So I knew they must be pretty good tires, but once I really rang them out I was blown away! The grip is unbelievable, I was able to push my car harder in corners than with any other tire I've ran, period. They gave the car a great planted feeling, they didn't squeal or squirm, and the sidewalls (while still very tall of course) felt stiff enough to give decent communication about the road and what they tires were doing. I took the car out yesterday for a run up my local mountain road, and I just couldn't believe the performance they gave. I never would have imagined that kind of grip and outright cornering speed would be available from anything short of a max-performance summer tire. I easily increased my speed through the tight, 2nd gear corners by 5mph and probably could have upped it even more.

They also ride very quite and smooth around town and on the freeway. I've read mixed reviews about mileage, so we'll see how long these ones last. I'll also have to try them out when the snow flies and update this post. But to those e30 owners who are looking for an excellent all-around tire that offers superior performance without sacrificing usability and comfort, I highly recommend the Ziex 912.

Update: I drove them in the snow today and they did very well. Decent traction on hard, icy snow and even better in softer, fluffy stuff. I was able to drive ok in places where chains were 'required' as long as I kept it slow. They're not Blizzaks, but they work well as all-seasons.

Yup. Ive had a set since spring. 205/50-16. Having come from very expensive tires [two sets of Goodyear GSD3's] these things are GREAT! Just as nice as the goodyears, and cost a ton less.

      Nice review!

I'll have to give these a try to replace my worn rt615s as my next DD tire.

I had both these and the RT 615's at the same time, 2 sets of weaves. The 912's put up with a LOT of abuse and lasted a long time, but the grip difference between the RT-615 and the 912s was massive. Though the 912s are a much better tire than the 512s for sure!

Not expecting the 912s to have massive grip, just want a good DD tire.

I liked them, I almost bought them again untill I found a KILLER deal on some nankangs in 17" for my DD. I switched to a smaller tire in the rear for sliding and the 912 wasn't available in the smaller size so I went with a hankook.

Pretty happy with mine in 195/60/14 on my weaves.
Will probably go with something different next, maybe pirelli dragons. Ideally I want to have new wheels by that point though.

Good source - in the 225/50-15 flavor they're just $65 each.

Thanks for the write up OP. I currently have the ZE512s on my car and they are nearing the end of their service life. Its been a great tire and I was considering buying another set since they are such a cost effective option. However, the new replacement looks to be an even better choice. These are going on my short list of purchase options.

UPDATE: They dont like cold, wet conditions or light snow. Little to know grip off the line, and kinda squirmy while driving. Ill ty to drive them when the first real snow hits, then swap to bottle caps with hakapininininininins.....ins.

                            I'll bite...

Ive now owned Falken Ziex 512s and 912s. Currently running the latest on my BBS Rz's and I love them. Im able to push my car a LOT more than my old Toyo's and even more than on my euro weaves with the 512's. Its hands down one of the best bangs for the buck for the size available and for E30's. Edge Racing runs really good deals on them as well. As far as rain, I've found them to be outstanding. Pretty similiar to what I remember feeling with Yoko Es100's when they are fresh. You cant go wrong with the 912's however. Very satisfied, twice over.

Downside: Kind of ugly looking. 912 looks a lot better however then the 512... Meaner at least.

Good to know. I will update this thread when snow hits here too, I an curious to see how they handle. However I havn't had any problems with them in cold or wet conditions, mine do just fine. rain performance is outstanding so far.
