i cant say this enough. i dont care about my map pockets being gone i will NOT cut my HT door panels. Maybe 2 versions are necessary cause i want/need theses to fit the speakers i bought almost a year ago.

edit: my speakers have a mount depth of 2.4 inches, i think thats small enough to keep from cutting
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I cannot give you a definite answer yet, but will keep this in mind when we start the prototype design.

I should be able to locate a set of door panels & map pockets by this week so we can start the process.

Interesting concept, and I'm excited to see the benefits!
"Hear" the benefits. Our goal is for it to look as close to factory as possible for someone that obviously doesn't drive an E30. ;)

I'm interested. Very very interested. I'd be down for 3 to 5 sets, at least.

So, these enclosures would be basically a nice mounting ring? I would be more excited if they were a completely contained enclosure. Don't mind hacking up my panels.

Also, were they going to be aimed correctly?

Would also be nice to see a separated/optional piece for tweets.

Truly awesome would be a self contained fiberglass setup, with spaces for the components. Just not sure if you could get enough airspace behind the driver. I haven't taken the door panels off of this thing yet.

If priced reasonably, I would definitely be in for a set.
Even more so if the tweeter was mounted within it as well.

No seriously. Just do it. You'd make a killing.

                    Just keep the price down.

Our main goal would be to create a completely contained enclosure. But like you said it will depend if we can come up with enough airspace. If we can, that will definitely be the route we will go.

Yes, they will also be aimed although I will leave that up to the expert. There will be a couple versions we will go through to fine tune the orientation of the driver.

You are the second person to ask about the tweeters being mounted here. It's not a problem mounting the tweeter there, but I was under the impression that most people wanted to keep their stock sail panel location? What's everyones feedback on this? If we can incorporate the tweeter by the pod location which will provide a better sound and staging, would that be of interest? Please give me your opinion and I can definitely see if we can do it.

Personally, I like my tweeters higher in the car. The stock location doesn't suck, and it does look nice.

I don't mind sail panel locations, but if I was going to plunk down the cash for custom enclosures, I'd rather have it as close to the midrange as possible.

A single point source is easier to deal with than multiple ones, especially for imaging.

exactly. I'd like to keep the tweeter and mid as close to eachother as possible.

See, everyone has their opinions. I hate it when the crossover is low and the tweets are too far away, even the stock system suffers from that.

Might be nice if there was an easy way to get the tweet in that same housing, but like adaptable, not so obvious that it looked like it were missing if you didn't use it.

Either way, it isn't like I am gonna have a set of these in my car, so you guys hash it out.

The other issue is if you use a specific sized sealed enclosure, please model a specific driver for it. Lots of car audio drivers are modeled for use in a door, which is really IB, or a leaky sealed enclosure.

If too small of an enclosure is used, midbass can really suffer, depending on the driver....and by driver, I mean speaker just to be clear.
