Yup. It's actually a very simple casting process once you figure out the correct density. Smooth-On could supply you with a complete key ring full of different density samples.

If you've got any questions about the bushings and casting or need any help let me know.

Just wanted to give props on this skidplate again.

I have it on my S50 E30 and my buddy has it on his S50 E30. It's saved both of us more than once!

Thanks. It does look like I need two versions. One for the DD and one for the guys running on Extra bad roads. I will work on this and have some thing soon. I still say for the average DD this is a great plate and has saved me many times.

Mr 325, how far is the plate from your oil pan on your s50?

Ninja Edit: Ej, I am still going to order another plate and the brace from you if you're still selling it.

I think I mentioned somewhere about this flaw on this style of design.

                  2) Their is no support bar in front of the oil pan, therefore it has no impact support. Under a hard impact the plate will simply flex upwards and smack the oil pan, thus breaking it anyways. This in addition to the weak edge of the core support also bending upwards.
You don't need bushings, you need a skid plate that will support the weight of the vehicle. The only way to do that is to have a support bar at the leading edge of the skid plate.

Its obvious from reading the feed back here that the Race Skid plate is pretty adequate under normal conditions and light duty applications.

Under extreme situations which do come up unexpectedly I think it would be more prudent to have a severe duty skid plate that can take on the direct impacts. The severe duty skid plate can absorb the impact and transfer it to the support bar instead of giving out under the load and impacting the oil pan in which it was supposed to protect.

To be honest this is the second failure of a race skids plate. Their was another member I think in New York that hit a manhole cover and it destroyed his oil pan as well.

Again, I am not trying to say the race skid plate is a cheap product, but it is pretty obvious that it is not a 'Severe Duty' option.

I feel the piranhas swarming already ;)

I launch off that plate probably 4-5 times a week living in Chicago and its held up wondrously.

However, this time was from train tracks and really shitty pavement. The tracks launched the front end up, and all the weight of the car came right down on this pavement mound via the skidplate.

I think the plate has been beaten to the point where it was pretty much up against the oil pan, so the impact just transferred right to the pan.

It got me thinking though - what if you added some bushings to the top side of the skid plate, between the plate and oil pan? Basically small rubber cylinder bushings, only attached to the skid plate, right underneath the closest contact points of the oil pan. That way if you do really whack something with the pan, the impact between the skid plate and oil pan interaction is absorbed through the bushings. you might need a new skid plate, but at least you wouldn't need a new skid plate and oil pan.

No pics yet. Assessing the damage this weekend.

Wow, you really like helping your cause, huh? One major reason to buy from EJ is that he DOESN'T talk shit about his competitors in order to try and boost his sales. It's poor business and it's just getting old. Seriously, shut the fuck up before you get banned.

In this instance (and I'm sure you'd find this in the other incident as well) Mucci admitted to already having damaged the plate to the point that it was contacting the pan. Had he removed it and straightened it out chances are his car would not be on a flat bed in the second photo. I'd also be curious to see his motor mounts before I passed judgment...
