I just cracked my sump on my m42 the other day. Had this skid plate on for about a year, took a LOT of big hits until it eventually bent to the point of being hard up against the sump and therefor transferring any big impacts directly to the sump.

Car has been raised since but skid plate is back on just in case

This is what it looks like after a year of abuse:

Same with mine. Failed exactly where yours did at those 90 bends in the rear.
It was a good plate that took straight abuse from me for over a year and a half.

glad to see it was doing its job. You can bend them back if you take a big hit.

Are you able to reinforce those points. So it wont fail over time???

I was thinking the same thing. I was actually planning on taking my skid plate (I just ordered a new one btw) to a metal work place and get some small triangle tabs welded where the bends are, with the thought that it would stop it from bending.

Only problem I can think this might cause is that, because the skidplate won't be able to move that little bit, more force will then be applied to the mounting points (steering rack) which might cause problems down the track.

                          Opinions?

I'm thinking your going to need some flexibility... Too rigid and your gonna transfer all that energy to the rack and rad support

I've seen one of these wrapped around an oil pan after a decent time under a car. Still in place and the pan wasn't leaking, but the structural rigidity may be slightly forgiving the way it is set up.
