Yes that's the way its made. I put the the extra inch of metal to press up on the support and in 5 years off making these I have never had one fail there.

I got the plate and installed it. My radiator support was a little bent, but I used vice grips to bend it back so the holes in the skidplate could reach. I have a question though, some of the holes I drilled were VEEERRYYY close to the edge of the radiator support edge; millimeters. Is that not enough space for structural support of the holes? I want the plate to be on sturdy - but I bet I am not the only one with a bent radiator support.
