this thread is a great idea I wish I had thought of it... i too walked into the dealer with a 5 page parts list that had the parts guy swearing at the computer. Its fun to watch but probably not the cheepest.

Yeah, and dealers have the option of using matrix pricing which means they might mark items up beyond BMW NA retail. So even if you get a 10 or 20% discount you might still be paying more than retail.

Be careful of many sites out there too that show list or 'competitive' price next to their online price. I've seen many of these that are inflated such that their online price looks to be discounted where it might not. On my site the list price shown is BMW NA retail (for replacement parts of course) so you can see what the actual price difference is. In some cases it isn't much because the aftermarket/OEM cost is high. But it also lets you know what retail is if you went into a dealer! It's generally quite accurate too. Obviously BMW updates their pricing every so often so my list prices might not be exactly real time but I do find them to be accurate.

        Cheers.

Thanks to everyone who has PM'ed me about a price quote.

I will be deciding tonight on which vendor to go with...

            It was fun!

Haha, I did the same thing for my five speed swap. They didn't place the order until 2 days after I dropped off the list. I picked it up and they gave me 5 pages of receipts.

I got funnier looks when I ordered my rear quarter panel through them though. The box was HUGE.

Heh, I think I'll have to get the parts in the minivan... :-D

Just placed the order, from the dealer in the end, as they were the only ones who could supply all the small parts. I asked if I could get an additional 5% on top of the CCA 10%, and they said yes, so its all good :-)

I'll update with pics in my project thread when it's all installed...

Opps, I typed it wrong. Hagerty wouldn't insure my 92 cabrio b/c my daily is a 91 318is. BS bc they want my DD to be something 98 or newer. Maintenance records do not matter.
Renting my rear wheel bearing tool kit. SIR

That is pretty stupid... I guess they want your DD to be a "reliable" newer car, lol...
