    Questions...
    1. Any info on the way-to-go for BMW roundels for the 4-lug wheels?
    A) Self-adhesive sticky (45mm ?) BMW logo to go on the current cap?
    B) Whole new oem BMW cap?

    2. Anyone got a recommendation for a good 215/40/17 all-season tire?
As I won't have a secondary set of wheels for the winter... not that there's that much winter here.

I'm going to go to the dealer today and see what I can find out

I already had some 17" x 8" e30 M3 wheels and ordered a second set of 17" x 9" for e36 with et42. I like a wide rim on my 235.40.17 R compound for added wall stiffness. I made a test fit with 25mm at the front and rear, but will use an 18mm at the rear. Final offsets will be et17 and et24.

I didn't end up doing anything to the rears really. There was a sprayed in fender slear or something in there I didn't scrap out, so when I rolled em, they didn't do anything.

All wheels have 1gr or less on the inside lip. There's a lot more on the outside because the weights are located about 3 inches inboard. If they had been on the outer lip, then there would have been much less weight. Remember that tires are used too.

used tires are never even, and even when new, there's actually a marking on the tire that your supposed to line up with the valve stem or something along those lines to get it to an even better balance, and minimize the use of weights.

the guys around here just throw them on. One of my wheels because of that, and an 18 year old balancing machine, now has a decent amount of weights on it.

well scrape it out, roll it, and lower the car. the camber plates up front when adjusted will help too, so you can bring the whole thing down some more.

                    Lee,

The car looks great. those 17x9's fit really cleanly on your car. Make sure you pick up nt-01's when those ra1's die off. I'd take them over anything besides slicks, hoosier R6's or BFG R1's.

Kartdude from s14.net custom machine his very own spacers to run 235/40/17 R888's on 17x9" et42 RG-R's. he machined the rears down to 16mm and the fronts to 22.5 i believe.

just search for R888 17x9 and you should find his thread.

I'm gonna scrape it, or see what's needed. I know I can adjust the camber plates more, I'm just not sure how to go about this. the front is already at 12 3/4" ride height, seems low compared to a lot of others. I'd love to maybe get some rake, or go lower front and rear, just worried about rubbing and such.

I guess I'm just not sure how low I can go, without the car handling like shit, and still not rub or rub very little.
                      PMing you too Eddy.

                        Lee,

Were the tires mounted paint dot to valve stem? If not, that "should" reduce the amount of weights needed to balance the tire.

50% of the tire shop's business is with race tires. So, they kinda know what they do. As far as the red spot, it is most likely a high or a low spot (if I remember). As I also mentionned, there was only a small weight on the inside lip, meaning that the reason for the long row of weight on the outside is simply because they are not located on the edge. The further away from the edge, the more is required. I have mounted tires for a whole season to help friends. That was a few years ago. And in all honesty, I now have huge respect for guys doing that dirty job.

                            Lee,

Most shops do not take the extra time to mount the tire as designed, even the best shops! It is usually easier and usually just as effective to just balance them out. Depending on the tire make, the dot can identify different things. This is decent site with a good bit of info.

Now to my experience, I had a full Dinan S2 M5 to include the ltw Dinan wheels. I had tires installed at a great tire shop and I constantly had a very faint vibration, which drove me crazy. I continued to have the tires rebalanced over the course of a months time as I assumed the balance was off. Each time I had it check; it was. So I cleaned each wheel very, very good and had the wheel balanced yet again. Of course after a day or two I felt the vibration return. I finally said enough was enough and looked at each wheel. What was happening was the shops were installing a large amount of wheel weights to make the wheel/tire balance out. After a few days, the heavy wheel weight would fall off and I would have an out of balance tire/wheel assembly. Finally I went to a very small, shadetree, backyard wheel straightener, Very shadetree! He looked at the wheel and tire assembly and he said "the tires aren't mounted incorrectly". He took each wheel and tire, lined the dots up with the wheel markings and viola. He mounted and balanced each wheel, they took minimal weight to balance out and I never had a single issue with a vibration again. The end.

I know 99% of the time you can get away with adding weights but... there is a correct way to mount the tires.

I am waiting for my Nitto nt05s to come and then I will toss up some pictures. I was looking at getting a stud kit and was wondering what size/brand I should buy. Any suggestions ?
