I am new to the whole swap idea. I always had bone stock cars. Forgive me what may be an obvious question, but are there complete set ups that come up for sale? I would be interested in a low stress project for my Touring, say, a stock rebuilt or perfectly functional mild M50, either with a trans or for my G240 with accessories that would be a plug and play package. Is there anyone who specializes in this or is it simply waiting to see what comes up?

your best bet would be putting a WTB out in the classifieds and on Facebook E30 groups. -
IMO you don't really come across complete setups that often. I really only think you come across them when e36/e34 guys want to swap their own vehicle. I think the fastest way to get everything would probably be buying a donor vehicle (preferably e34) and take what you need and sell off the rest. You could do the same with an e36 but you would still need e34 components regardless. Even then it probably won't be a straight drop in as you might need smaller other little things. But that's just my 2cents.Comment

Some people give up on the project and end up doing that.. which is not too many......it will save you time to do it on your won.. theres plenty of info here to research

In response to your last question, it depends on where you are.. there are places around here in Southern California that will perform the swap, but they're usually costly. I do see a swapped car come up for sale once in a while, but it's rare. That scenario would be your best bet if you wanted a straight drop-in swap for your touring. Otherwise you do what the rest of us do, and spend either a lot of time or a lot of money gathering the parts. The E34 oil pan is a pretty penny unless you find one untouched at a junkyard. For the most part, buying a crashed-but-running vehicle is the next best option. And there's no real advantage in choosing an M50 over an M52; yes there are a few more parts to worry about, but you can get a little more power from the latter.
Since your question pertains to "the easiest option" to drop in a motor, the short answer is, yes, you wait until something like that comes up. So just watch the various sources for sale ads.Comment

lol I actually started the swap when I found an oil pan in the junkyard.. that was the most expensive thing out of the original project.. the motor was cheaperComment
